Romanticism describes the words,
“Vincent’s Starry, Starry Night”
Lyrics sound the sentiment,
In Sylvia Plath’s,
example of a villanelle
"Mad Girl's love Song"
Her Attempt to sort it out make it real?
Or simply a picture painted with words.

Villanelle
Colliding with the present impression,
Grinding, crush of my past,
dampens my mood for days in succession.
An old enemy, persistent depression,
Tumbling, falling fast,
Colliding with the present impression.
Kneeling at the altar I make my confession,
Halting, hesitant downcast,
Dampens my mood for days in succession.
Desperate to be free of this obsession,
One–two-three, marching-past,
Colliding with the present impression.
Desiring to be relieved of this oppression
weighted, heavy overcast,
Dampens my mood for days in succession.
Begging forgiveness of my transgression,
Intruding , Swiftly, memories fly-past,
Colliding with the present impression,
Dampens my mood for days in succession.
Grinding, crush of my past,
dampens my mood for days in succession.
An old enemy, persistent depression,
Tumbling, falling fast,
Colliding with the present impression.

The Bounty of Earths Yield (villanelle)
Yellow flowers cover the field,
Fish jump in a stream,
The bounty of earths yield.
Orange, lemon, limes peeled,
Crows flying overhead scream,
Yellow flowers cover the field,
Apples and potatoes in wagons wheeled,
Burlap sack bursting at its seam,
The bounty of earths yield.
Clover and herbs, mint and dill,
cows milk churned into cream,
Yellow flowers cover the field.
Watermelon and cantaloupe chilled,
Cart pulled by the horse team,
The bounty of earths yield.
Honeysuckle and rose scents meld,
golden wheat and sun beam,
yellow flowers cover the field,
The bounty of earths yield.
Fish jump in a stream,
The bounty of earths yield.

Life is what happens to the plans you make.
As each hour passes and for the day you prepare.
Dependant on the degree of risk you take.
Living, it's all a gamble, careful you'll lose your stake.
As the dice is rolled and the snake eyes appear
Life is what happens to the plans you make.
Dreams go away, morning comes then you awake
Sometimes your only goal is to alleviate fear
Dependant on the degree of risk you take.
Anxiously check your mailbox, did you win the sweepstake?
Real luck is a mate staying a lifetime to dry your tear
Life is what happens to the plans you make
Work hard all your days, your kids and wife not forsake,
Soon as they can they leave home, just disappear,
Dependant on the degree of risk you take.
Whether you win or lose, or make many a mistake,
fail to take advantage of options that never reappear,
Life is what happens to the plans you make
Dependant on the degree of risk you take.

Villanelle
Once a young maid took a lover
Handsome man full of charm
They lay under the cover.
To her house he'd come over
They would walk arm in arm
Once a young maid took a lover
In sunshine, on top of green clover,
Innocent, meaning no harm,
They lay under the cover.
Hours spent bodies to discover
Barn haystack on the farm
Once a young maid took a lover
They, neither one a pushover
No conscience sound of alarm
They lay under the cover
Time spent, youth not to recover, but
Keeping forever the memory so warm,
Once a young maid took a lover
They lay under the cover.

Attitude
Felicitous attitude,
Please like me,
Forgive my platitude,
But, it is free.
High altitude
Can you see?
Nothing to occlude
My profundity.

Seven
Sloth a deadly sin,
One of seven,
Spiritual apathy,
For you no heaven,
Image of skin,
Gold graven,
Ithyphallic, telepathy,
Mental craven,
Meet the harlequin,
Black raven,
Dragging a harpy,
Number seven.

Words To The Wise
Me myself and I,
words to the wise.
Indulging in meditation,
came to the realization,
my human family,
sisters and brothers,
steal, cheat, lie,
kill others...
they are bad.
A nothing new thought,
but, still sad.
With this I declare,
my epiphany share.
The smaller things,
may have greater impact,
though not deadly,
as physical contact.
Laughing at someone,
may seem harmless,
and simple fun.
Pain not to see,
only effects mentally.
Hurt accepted,
even if irrational,
should be rejected.
You may ask how so?
To be happy.........
No thinking with ego.
Put others first,
peace you'll see,
mind free.....
difficult task,
for some you ask?
Yes, for the self,
belittled,
made fun of daily,
self-pity riddled,
self absorbs all,
nothing's left.
For the mind,
can handle only
one thing at a time.
Ego safeguards, For
Others, no regard,
simply unable,
unstable,
obsessed,
miserable,
depressed.

Fathers Day Poem
You opened,
the locked door,
I looked inside,
concerned,
Fish eyes stared back.
But, you let me in.
It was long ago,
I still remember,
The scent of vodka,
on your breath.
I recall,
you loved your uniform,
with its ribbons and metals,
You liked to drive
Your car very fast.
Once you outran
a train, going Across
a railroad Track.
Fearless of death,
Brave soldier,
Your rank,
Sergeant first class.
You were in charge,
of other soldiers.
I have
Proud Memories of you,
Marching in a parade,
Or standing on a tank.
With a smile on your face.
Was it the heavy weight
of your past,
veteran of a World War.
Maybe that was it….
Did you feel?
Did you think,
You would cheat,
The grime reaper.
What thoughts,
Did you have,
To make you,
To Force you,
To decide.
To solve the problem.
You did get results,
but, it was a,
permanent solution,
and a
premature ending,
for a
temporary situation...

I Am Free
Wrinkles line my face,
none of which I would erase,
hair, long wavy, dark strands,
gray interwoven, life demands,
green eyes seem the color brown,
when I squint or if I frown,
Denim blue jeans I wear for play,
Dress up for church on Sunday,
last husband died this year,
none left of sorrow, no single tear,
baby daughter moved away,
to a country afar, to stay,
Quiet peaceful life I lead,
Only dogs and cats to feed,
Question posed by inner voice,
should I weep and wail or rejoice,
Is there weight of distress
of isolation, of lonliness,
Then it dawns, a lights reflection
decision made, reject dejection,
refusing to be desolate I see,
and appreciate that I am free.

Jake Chased a Ball Today
Jake chased a ball today,
he jumped up and down,
frisky, happy, at play,
running round and round,
wiggling, waggling his tail,
Now, this puppy is well,
Jake chased a ball today,'
not so very long ago,
no energy, he'd just stay
in one place or move slow,
Now, he is back on track,
his appetite is back,
Jake chased a ball today.

Jake's Tummy Ache
To the Veterinarian
went the dog named Jake,
hoping to find medicine,
for his tummy ache.
He had quite an adventure
while waiting in a room,
he met a little miniature,
poodle, there to see a groom.
A woman had her cat there,
who meowed and hissed,
as it hid behind a chair.
Finally, Jake got to see the doctor;
after a probe and a listen,
Jake got a shot and an order
for stomach medicine.
As he left he went bow, wow,
looking so splendid,
he is all better now,
his adventure has ended.
